New Study Says Toxic Chemicals Pervasive in Baby Products
A study of products designed for newborns, babies and toddlers – including car seats, breastfeeding pillows, changing pads and other items made with polyurethane foam – found that 80 percent of products tested contained chemical flame retardants that are considered toxic, according to a peer-reviewed study published in the Environmental Science & Technology Journal. Other detected retardants had so little health and safety data on them that their effects are currently unknown. Read more…

New Effort to Make Medicaid/Medicare More Efficient and Effective

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is looking for ways to make Medicaid and Medicare work better for 9 million people who are covered under both programs. While individuals that are dual eligible tend to have the greatest health care and long term services needs, the two programs do not work well together, and those who are eligible for both face delays in getting services, confusing and conflicting requirements, and less than high quality care.
